Poulheria Kyriakou studied Classics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (BA 1989) and Ohio State University, USA (MA 1992, PhD 1995). She taught Classics at University of Crete, Greece (1995-1998). In 1998 she was appointed associate professor of Greek at Democritus University at Komotini, Greece, where she taught until 2005. In 2005 she was appointed associate professor of Greek at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2012 she was promoted to professor.

Her research interests include Greek tragedy, archaic lyric, archaic and Hellenistic epic, and Greek philosophy.

She is the author of articles and four books, Homeric Hapax Legomena in the Argonautica of Apollonius Rhodius (Franz Steiner, Stuttgart, 1995), Euripides, Iphigeneia in Tauris. With Introduction and Commentary (Berlin and New York, 2006), The past in Aeschylus and Sophocles (Berlin/ Boston, 2011) and Theocritus and his native Muse. A Syracusan among many (Berlin/Boston, 2018).
