Martin Vöhler studied Ancient Greek and German Literature at the Universities of Berlin and Thessaloniki (first State Examination 1987, Ph.D. 1995, Habilitation in German and Greek Literature, 2003). He has taught at the Universities of Berlin (1990–1995, 2002–2010), Cairo (2006), Cyprus (2011–2015), Munich (2015). In 2015 he was appointed Professor of Ancient Greek Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His research interests include Pindar, Hölderlin and the Classical tradition in Germany and Europe.

He is the author of the books: (1) ‚Danken möcht' ich, aber wofür?‘ Zur Tradition und Komposition von Hölderlins Hymnik (Munich: Fink, 1997); (2) Pindarrezeptionen. Sechs Studien zum Wandel des Pindarverständnisses von Erasmus bis Herder (Heidelberg: Winter, 2005) (“Heidelberg Research Award for Theoretical Research in the Classical Tradition”).

He is co-editor (with S. Föllinger, Τ. Fuhrer, T. Reinhardt, J. Stenger) of the series Philologus. Supplementary Volumes and the journal Philologus (Berlin/Boston: Walter de Gruyter). He is also co-editor (with S. Doering, J. Kreuzer) of the journal Hölderlin-Jahrbuch (Munich: Fink) and member of the scientific board of the journal eisodos.
