Rengakos Antonios
Antonios Rengakos studied classics at the University of Freiburg (B.A. 1979, Ph.D. 1982). He has taught at the Universities of Vienna (1994-1995), Freiburg (1991-1997). In 1997 he was appointed Professor of Ancient Greek Philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in 2011 he became a full member of the Academy of Athens (Chair: Ancient Greek Philology). In 2015 he was elected Honorary Professor of the University of Peloponnese and in 2016 corresponding member of the Heidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften (Philosophical-Historical Section).
His research interests include Homer, historiography and Hellenistic poetry. Since 2006 he is Director of the Linguistics Department of the Centre for the Greek Language in Thessaloniki, since 2015 Honorary Professor of the University of Peloponnese and since 2016 corresponding member of the Heidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften.
He is a member of the Board of the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece (MIET) and member of the Scientific Council of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I).
